Universal Design
Universal Design is About Making Life Just a Little Easier.
It’s about accessibility and livability with features that are architecturally pleasing. Regardless of age, ability, or situation, these types of features encompass the little touches that make living just a little easier.
When you downsize to a 1-story, 1- or 2-bedroom home, you’ll find things like:
- No step entries into the front doors
- Slightly wider, 36” interior doors in the hallways, bedrooms, and bathrooms
- Lever handles (opposed to twisting knobs) that make opening doors slightly easier
- Bars to grab onto for stability in the bathrooms
- No-step walk-in showers
- Lever handles for doors and sinks
- Slip resistant flooring
- Specially-placed lighting for specific tasks
- Electrical outlets placed at heights that are a little easier to reach.
- Wider sidewalks and ramps
Did you know only 1% of all homes in the United States incorporate Universal Design standards?
While you can retrofit n existing home to accommodate Universal Design, it could certainly be costly (replacing a shower with a no-step shower stall) and result in things like an unattractive ramp leading into your home.
Our goal is to make livability and accessibility a way of life for you that are also beautiful, and contemporary.
